Yale University Now Requires Exams in their College Admissions: Join our March Conference to Learn More
Join Program Officers Jasmine Ngo and Sreya Ravi in March to Learn More about the Changing Academic Landscape

Tigerway Team Members and Families,
The landscape of college admissions is experiencing a significant shift as Yale University announced its decision to reinstate standardized test requirements for applicants entering the class of 2025. Following Dartmouth College's similar decision, Yale's move marks the second Ivy League university to drop test-optional policies from the pandemic era.
In March, Program Director Jasmine Ngo and Program Officer Sreya Ravi will be hosting an exclusive webinar for parents and students to learn more about the new standardized test reinstatements in college admissions.

For now, let’s briefly talk about the reason why colleges are deciding to reinstate this policy.
Yale's policy shift comes after careful consideration of the unintended consequences of test-optional policies, particularly their potential harm to students from lower-income backgrounds. Just as Dartmouth reinstated the exam requirement for similar reasons, other schools are contemplating this change in admissions criteria to effectively forecast their students' future success.
The new policy at Yale will be "test flexible," allowing students to submit scores from subject-based Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests as alternatives to the SAT or ACT. This approach accommodates diverse pathways to academic achievement while ensuring a fair and equitable admissions process.
It's worth noting that Yale's decision is part of a broader trend in college admissions. While some institutions have opted to maintain test-optional policies, others are reevaluating their approach in light of recent research questioning the efficacy of such policies.
Yale's research has found that standardized test scores remain the single best predictor of academic success at the university, even after controlling for income and demographic factors.
As colleges navigate these changes, it's essential to consider the broader implications for access and equity in higher education. The SAT/ACT exam remains valuable to college applications. As we face the new Digital SAT and the ever-increasing trend of schools reinstating exam scores, Tigerway Programs are also evolving to fit your needs with the changing landscape. The digital SAT is just two weeks away, offering juniors and underclassmen an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new format and its implications for their college application journey.
For those seeking SAT/ACT preparation or College Prep, Tigerway offers in-person group coaching sessions conveniently located in Boston.
These sessions will start the weekend of April 6th, 2024, and will be led by Coach Calvin Cheung. This opportunity allows students to have highly engaged sessions, expanded Boston networks, and more resources that will prepare them for future admissions.
