Exciting News: In-Person Coaching in Boston is Coming Back!

Tigerway Team Members and Families,
Before COVID happened in 2020 and changed the test prep industry forever, I had the pleasure of working with a very large group of team member students in an in-person setting in Boston. The last three years have seen our program accomplish new milestones with our online infrastructure, being able to help students both in Massachusetts and many states in the U.S. At the height of our in-person program, our Community had nearly 150 students attending my classes on an ongoing basis and it was truly an invaluable experience to be able to contribute towards such an important mission.
While we will continue to provide private coaching as an option for parents who want customized attention for their teens, we are also making an important decision to bring back the In-Person program’s class format in Boston as a key option for parents who want their children to learn in a class setting. This in-person program will be led by my younger Brother Calvin Cheung, who is deeply passionate about educating students, loves the SAT as much as I do, and has a strong background in both Math and English coaching as he worked as a private Coach at Tigerway over the past several years.
Calvin is following in my footsteps in that he also works in finance as an Analyst, is working towards being a CFA Charterholder (coveted designation in finance), and sincerely wants to contribute towards the return of our in-person program.
Starting in April 2024 (only 2 months from now), our program returns with the in-person class format as an option. We believe in-person classes give students an opportunity to learn in a highly engaged setting, make new friendships/peer relationships, and feel motivated to succeed in today’s competitive college admissions environment.
Our program will not only focus on the SAT Exam. It will be a comprehensive College Preparation program designed for Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors to be ready for the rigors of college.
We believe that High School students who are prepared to succeed in college will end up with better internship offers, better full-time job offers, and more opportunities for their careers over the long term.
The foundation to succeed later on in life begins at the High School level.
Here’s how it will work.
Program Content:
Academics: The Program is broadly focused on developing strong Math and English skills that will build a foundation to make students successful back in their HS Classes, the SAT/ACT, the College Essay, as well as fundamental study habit skills to succeed in college. Your teen can expect to develop a stronger relationship with Problem Solving (Math) and also develop writing skills (English) that will impress their teachers and future admission officers. We’ll also help them become more effective readers so that they can consume MORE information in less time (Critical thinking) while maintaining comprehension. Essentially, we are looking to increase the IQ of our students over the long-term and we will work to have that reflected in both Grades, Test Scores, and College Outcomes.
College Consulting: We will dedicate one session per month focused on College Consulting Strategies, where we showcase data, strategies, and advice for students looking to apply to competitive schools where admit rates are under 30%. College admissions have become less predictable than in the past, but the same rules apply: great applicants have great probabilities of success. We will turn you into a great applicant.
Extracurricular Advice: In our College Consulting sessions, we’ll discuss how to create a niche college admissions profile in the process even if you haven’t yet joined any Team Sports, Music Organizations, or School Clubs. It’s not just about grades and scores but about how your profile aligns with your demographic.
Study Skills & Habits: Throughout all sessions, we will share the best ways to become a highly productive and efficient student. We’ll show processes and routines that allow you to maximize your time and create a plan to help you organize your college strategy.
Mindset Training: Our classes will be designed to help strengthen the mindset of your students and help them develop a more “competitive” mindset to achieve his/her longer-term goals. For students who are laid back, We will transform a “passive” mindset into an “active” one so that you can see a more driven version of your teen. For students who are already ambitious, we will help them cope with performance management anxiety and learn to harness their emotions to their advantage.
Timeline: One class weekly - on Saturday or Sunday for students. Each class is 2.5 hours long.
Additional Resources: We have all the latest SAT, ACT, College Advice, Scholarship Strategy, and Study Habits resources in our Digital Library.
Location: Studio Classroom, located next to Boston’s Boylston Green Line MBTA T Stop
To start the return of our in-person program, we have a limited number of seats available in our classes as Calvin wants to make sure he knows each student on a personal level to best help each Tigerway team member succeed.
I am deeply committed to seeing our students succeed, and Calvin is excited to personally help take your students to the next level.
Online learning works for some, but not for others. We understand that, and we are bringing back a format that has been proven to work (and greatly enjoyed) over the years where we ran in-person classes.
For the next steps, Please fill out this Google Form below, and our Program Officers will give you a call over the coming 5-7 days to talk about how we can best help your son/daughter on the SAT/ACT, High School Course Study Habits, College Planning Guidance, and Mindset Training to become ready to succeed once they start college.
Welcome back to in-person. Calvin and I are excited for the next Chapter of Tigerway as our program returns to developing relationships with students in a face-to-face setting.
Regards,
Larry
