Tigerway Team Members and Families,
It's that time of year again - the Advanced Placement (AP) exams are fast approaching in April. The end of the school year exams are coming and it starts with the AP exams in May. Whether you are an experienced test-taker or new to AP exams, now is the time to focus and ensure that you are prepared to excel.
Why Are AP Exams Important?
Why should you even bother taking AP exams? Here are the reasons why AP Credit is IMPORTANT for BEFORE AND DURING COLLEGE!
College Credit: Many colleges and universities offer course credit or advanced standing for high AP exam scores. This means that by performing well on these exams, you can potentially save time and money by bypassing introductory courses in college.
Admissions Boost: Strong performance on AP exams can significantly enhance your college application. Admissions officers recognize the rigor of AP courses and view success in these exams favorably. A track record of AP success demonstrates your commitment to academic excellence and can give your application an advantage in the competitive admissions process. For example, strong scores in AP COMP SCI, AP CALC, and AP STATS can heighten your chances of getting into the computer science major at selective schools because you’re able to show off your quantitative skills.
Preparation for College: By taking AP exams, you challenge yourself academically and develop essential skills such as critical thinking, time management, and effective study habits that will serve you well in college and beyond.
Exploration of Interests: AP courses cover a wide range of subjects such as psychology, calculus, physics, chemistry, history, econ, and more, allowing students to explore their interests and strengths.
How to Prepare for AP Exams
Now that we've established why AP exams are important, let's talk about how to ensure success on exam day:
Review Course Material: Start by reviewing the content covered in your AP course throughout the year. Create a study schedule that allows you to review key concepts, practice problems, and essays.
Practice with Past Exams: Familiarize yourself with the format and types of questions you'll encounter on the AP exam by practicing with past exams. This will help you become more comfortable with the test structure and identify areas where you may need additional review.
Review Resources: Take advantage of review books, online resources, and study guides specifically tailored to the AP exams you'll be taking. These resources often provide targeted review materials, practice questions, and tips for success. At Tigerway, we have a digital library full of AP books that can help you!
At Tigerway, we offer In-Person and Online coaching with the latest Digital SAT and AP material. Other than the college board material, we will ensure to provide you with all the information you need to feel even more prepared for the challenging questions you may encounter on your next SAT and AP Exams!
