In response to ongoing evaluations and considerations, Brown University has decided to reinstate standardized testing requirements for admission.
This decision aligns Brown with other esteemed institutions such as Yale, Dartmouth, and M.I.T.
The reinstatement of SAT or ACT scores as a requirement for admission, effective immediately in the upcoming admissions cycle, is based on the university's analysis that standardized test results serve as valuable indicators of future academic success. Brown University underscores that these scores are pivotal in predicting a student's ability to thrive within its rigorous academic environment.
Moreover, Brown's decision reflects concerns raised by both Dartmouth and Yale regarding the unintended consequences of suspending test requirements. There was a realization that students from low-income backgrounds, despite possessing the potential to excel academically, may have opted not to submit scores under the test-optional policy, impacting their chances of admission.
The university's admissions review committee highlighted the significance of strong testing performance, especially when considered within the context of a student's background.
It was noted that the absence of scores might lead admissions officers to hesitate in admitting otherwise qualified candidates.
While some institutions are moving towards test-optional policies, Brown University's decision underscores the complexity of admissions practices and the ongoing debate surrounding equity and access in higher education. The university continues to deliberate on various aspects of admissions, including legacy preferences, as it seeks to balance competing values and ensure fairness in its processes.
Stay ahead of the college trends and start preparing for high test scores and grades now! Students must have excelling scores to gain higher chances of getting into dream schools and financial/scholarship packages.
