Attention High School Students: Colleges are Starting to Require SAT/ACT Exams Again!
Dartmouth College reinstates SAT/ACT Score Requirement - The Beginning to a Trend Reemergence

Tigerway Team Members and Families,
Recently Dartmouth College, a prestigious Ivy League school, has announced its decision to reinstate standardized testing requirements, the SAT or ACT, for admissions.
This decision comes after Dartmouth had adopted a test-optional policy during the pandemic, reflecting a broader trend among other colleges and universities.
Dartmouth's decision was motivated by research conducted by a group of professors at the college, which revealed that during the test-optional period, disadvantaged students were more likely to omit their test scores.
Surprisingly, some of these students had scores that could have potentially bolstered their admissions prospects.
Bruce Sacerdote, an economics professor at Dartmouth and one of the researchers involved, emphasized that many students from less advantaged backgrounds might not realize the value of their test scores in the context of their personal challenges and educational environments. This lack of awareness could put them at a disadvantage in the admissions process.
To address this issue, Dartmouth is taking proactive steps to better communicate with students about the significance of standardized test scores.
Dartmouth aims to ensure that students from all backgrounds are equipped with the information they need to make informed decisions regarding standardized testing.
While Dartmouth's decision may seem specific to one institution, its implications extend beyond the Ivy League campus. The widespread adoption of test-optional policies during the pandemic prompted many colleges and universities to reevaluate the role of standardized tests in admissions. As institutions reconsider their testing requirements, there is a growing debate about the efficacy and equity of standardized testing in the admissions process.
Ultimately, the debate surrounding standardized testing reflects broader concerns about equity and fairness in college admissions. While standardized tests can provide valuable insights, they must be interpreted within the context of students' diverse backgrounds and experiences.
At Tigerway, we recognize the significance of standardized testing in the college admissions journey. As Dartmouth's decision prompts discussions about testing policies, we remain committed to supporting our students in navigating the complexities of the admissions process.
