When is the Best Time to Start SAT Prep?
Exploring Tigerway? Here's a snapshot of how we can support you!

Tigerway Team Members and Families,
As you approach the journey of SAT preparation, one of the most common questions is: "When is the ideal time to start SAT training?"
At Tigerway, we understand the significance of this decision, and it's a question that hinges on several critical factors.
The moment to start your SAT training journey can differ for each student. Your readiness, aspirations, and the timeline leading up to your intended test date all play pivotal roles in determining the most opportune starting point.
Typically, consider these timelines:
Sophomore Year/Early Junior Year: Starting SAT training during your sophomore year or early junior year can provide you with ample time for comprehensive preparation. It will allow you to learn effective test-taking strategies, improve your understanding of the test content, and gradually build your skills. Early training also gives you more time to focus on fundamental high school courses and improve your SAT score.
Mid-to-Late Junior Year: During this time, a lot of students start to prepare for their SAT exams. This period provides ample time to study and practice extensively, allowing them to take the test in the latter half of their junior year or early in their senior year. The majority of students begin their SAT preparation before their first exam, which usually takes place in March of their junior year.
Senior Year: If you haven't started preparing for the SAT earlier, don't worry. The senior year still offers opportunities to work on it. You have until December to take the SAT for it to be considered in college applications. However, there isn't much time left to prepare and it may require more intense training. Starting earlier provides more flexibility and reduces stress closer to application deadlines.
Factors to Consider:
Personal Readiness: Assess your comfort with the material tested on the SAT. If you're confident in your skills, you might require less preparation time.
Test Dates: Determine when you plan to take the SAT. Allow sufficient time before your intended test date to prepare adequately.
Other Commitments: Consider your schedule, extracurricular activities, and academic workload. Ensure you have enough time to balance SAT preparation with your other responsibilities.
