Unlocking Your SAT English Score: How Module 2 Adapts to Your Performance — And How to Maximize It
What Every Parent and Student Should Know About the Digital SAT’s English Section
Dear Parents and Students,
As we continue preparing your teen for top SAT scores, we want to make sure you understand a powerful feature of the new Digital SAT: the adaptive nature of Module 2 on the English (Reading and Writing) section — and how students can use this knowledge to their advantage.
The digital SAT’s English section has two modules:
Module 1: Fixed difficulty — every student gets the same mix of question types and difficulty levels.
Module 2: Adaptive — based on how your teen performs in Module 1, the College Board’s system will assign one of two versions:
A more advanced version with harder questions but more scoring potential
A less advanced version with easier questions but a lower score ceiling
Based on our research of recent exam patterns, here is what we see - notice that there will be an increase in tough vocabulary questions and FEWER grammar questions.
Not only does how well a student performs in Module 1 directly influences how high they can score overall, it also plays into Question Allocation on Module 2.
Even just a few mistakes early, which trigger an Easier Module 2 will also result in a different Question Allocation mix.
The high-difficulty Module 2 emphasizes reasoning, synthesis, and deeper reading. The lower-difficulty path leans more on grammar and simpler comprehension.
The Strategy at Tigerway: How to Maximize Opportunity in Module 2
To help your child earn a top score, we focus heavily on:
Module 1 Mastery: Strong start = access to the high-yield path. We train students to avoid careless mistakes in Module 1 under intense pressure.
Strategic Reading: Teaching techniques that help students extract key information quickly, especially in data-rich or argumentative passages.
Pacing and Confidence: Students must balance speed with accuracy. We coach them to recognize “trap” answers and avoid second-guessing.
Our program is built to elevate students into the high-difficulty Module 2, where top scorers live. From diagnostic audits to weekly targeted practice, we’re preparing students for this adaptive challenge — not just with content but with strategy and psychology.
Program Director Calvin (617-749-8421, text) recently shared to our team that English vocabulary questions were rated the hardest type of questions among students.
Given that Module 2 tests harder Vocabulary questions, we have a Strategy for this.
He forms a strategy discussion with Parents behind how to tailor score raises for a person’s specific set of strengths and weaknesses.
As we enter mid-July, it’s time to press the study intensiveness to maximize opportunities for score growth in the weeks ahead.
