Dear Tigerway Team Members, Parents, and Prospective Families,
We want to continue congratulating our Team Members that crossed Mega Star status (1400+) on the October SAT.
This week we want to give the spotlight to Netrang D. Netrang started within the 1200 range and then the 1300s for a long time. With hard work and dedication, he was able to get into the 1400 range by the August Exam. But that wasn’t it. He decided to take the SAT again in October and he ended with a wonderful 1500 SAT score. Congratulations Netrang!
Now onto the next step: the College Admission process
Even with successful scores, Team Members must know it takes more than a strong academic background to get into the top 15 schools (Princeton, MIT, Harvard, Stanford, etc). The elite colleges have been lowering their acceptance rates each year, making it harder to get accepted for each class. The top 15 schools are looking for more than academically strong students. Seniors and Juniors aiming for the top 15 schools, including Ivy League schools, this email is very critical for you to read.
Here is how you can to stand out to these colleges
Take initiative and become more involved in your community. Show commitment and compassion for others through your actions.
Plan ahead and do your research about what major you want to do early. Knowing what you want to do and how you want to do it will increase your acceptance by being well-prepared. Colleges like to predict the impact that you can make on their school with these plans.
Start personalizing your classes for your specific major or college. Excelling in AP courses (4 or 5 on the exam) will allow students to transfer credit to their dream schools. This shows colleges that you know what you want.
Apply early and go on college tours. Attending college tours and applying early will show colleges that you have high interest for their school.
Be considerate with the people you ask to write your recommendation letters. Other than your application, they want to know more about you from a different perspective. Ask those who know you best (your strengths and weakness, how you’ve grown and excelled in and out of school)
Check your social media and make sure you are careful with what you make public. Not everyone knows this. There is data that admission officers DO look at your social media when deciding acceptances.
Have a unique essay that makes you stand out as an applicant. The way you tell your story is much more critical. Show growth and character development throughout your essay.
Most importantly, the central theme of standing out is to develop your student brand in high school. Know your passions, values, and goals. Showcase these factors in and out of school activities. Presenting yourself this way will show colleges that you are a student that takes action. Have plans throughout the school year and Summer vacations.
