Dear Tigerway Team Members, Parents, and Prospective Families,
Continuing into our program for the fall, Tigerway members are relentlessly applying the skills needed to master the SAT. Hard work, resiliency, and knowing the key strategies needed to achieve a score boost are emphasized every week at Tigerway, and this weekend was no different.
MATH
Descriptive Statistics & Mean, Median, Mode, Range
Statistics are incredibly powerful and can be used to greatly influence people’s opinions. However, it is crucial to realize that they can be misleading. Tigerway’s method of education doesn’t end at the content covered in the SAT, we teach our team members the real-world applications to help them become well-rounded learners.
Today’s content coverage focused on a big-picture explanation of mean median mode as it relates to normally distributed graphs and skewed graphs. Reviewed the definitions of the common modes of central tendency and range, then targeted each one with focused practice problems and drills.
Key Insight: Mode, the most common data point, is one of the most useful data points. We emphasized how it is difficult to calculate this because there is no set formula, so it is important to master and understand its applications.
We wrapped up this section of content today with an in-depth review on how to read histograms, what the IQR represents, and how to analyze a histogram efficiently and effectively.
GRAMMAR
Add, Delete, Revise
This is the most common and difficult portion of the grammar exam, because the add, delete, and revise questions tend to be subjective rather than objective. It is important to remember that the SAT grammar section always has a correct and best answer even when it may feel like multiple answers could be correct.
We opened with a video that demonstrated the importance of writing. Then, focusing right in on the grammar content coverage, we reviewed reasons why you should add, delete or revise a sentence with targeted examples for each one.
When talking about the introduction of a new topic, Tigerway highlights the importance of grabbing a reader’s attention at the beginning of a piece of writing, especially in college essays which is a key insight from Tigerway’s college consulting area.
Real-world examples: we looked at a Youtuber who lets her personality shine right at the beginning of her videos to get viewers engaged and hooked from the start. To demonstrate what effective transitions look like, members were shown a video of a content creator who seamlessly integrated a sponsorship into his video.
We ended with drills focusing on math and English to help members apply the skills they learned to problems while also integrating time management and focus practice.
This weekend at Tigerway was no different from others. Here at Tigerway, we talk about SAT topics and help our team members achieve their goal outcomes. But, we also take the time to help our members learn the real-world applications of the content we focus on. The SAT is a life skill, and we at Tigerway are here to help you master it.
Have a great weekend and keep practicing!
