Dear Tigerway Team Members, Parents, and Prospective Families,
With the August SAT scores released, we are extremely proud of our team members’ hard work and score improvements across the board. Many achieved jumps in their score, and several students were able to target the skills and strategies needed to improve to reach their goal score.Â
Incredible work Tigerway members. This weekend, we jumped right into preparation for the next exam. The Tigerway team is focused and ready to help members achieve their desired outcomes.
Now allow us to share with you a recap of what we’ve been doing inside our Program during our engaging Saturday online sessions
Mathematics Content Coverage
Exponents
This week’s content coverage began with the basic exponent rules: multiplying and dividing exponents, simplifying exponents on exponents and radicals of different powers, fractional and negative exponents, just to name a few.
However, the SAT rarely tests simply reducing complex exponents, so we reviewed the many different ways that questions that need the utilization of these rules in a way that may not be immediately obvious to students.Â
We look to find the subtle ways the SAT targets questions and then adjust our strategy to know how to attack each archetype of the problem. We empower team members to be able to solve problems using the rules they already know instead of trying to memorize the countless variations of similar questions.
English Content Coverage
Reading Between the Lines
This week, the reading comprehension-focused strategy highlighted the importance of reading many different types of non-fiction on topics like history, science, finance, etc.Â
There are no strategies, tips, or hacks that are as powerful as individual students growing their overall knowledge and reading skills by reading a lot and reading informational texts.Â
Here at Tigerway, we recommended that as team members read, they should work on trying to understand the main idea, tone, purpose, and different aspects of the text as quickly as possible in order to hone their skills.Â
Tip #1: To be able to read faster while still grasping the meaning of what it is you’re reading: focus on the nouns and verbs of the sentence. The rest tends to be flowery language and fillers, less important to understanding the main idea of the text. Gaining the ability to skim without sacrificing understanding is crucial to time management on the SAT.
Tip #2: Focus on the dates in historical passages. It will help contextualize the passage and greatly ameliorate comprehension by using the general knowledge you already know.
We also reviewed some key strategies for dual passages. Our key takeaways focus on finding the relationship and analyzing the similarities and differences two passages will focus on the same topic.
We ended this weekend’s academic sessions with drills to test team members with advanced questions and time cuts, helping to build team members’ optimization of time on the SAT.
We wrapped up with Office Hours where we took individual questions from students on their college planning and strategy.
Another successful weekend with the new program structure has been completed by Tigerway members. Team members, make sure to keep bringing questions from anything regarding the SAT, college consulting, or essay editing to our weekly office hours on Saturday from 1-2 PM EST.
Here, Tigerway assistant coaches are available to answer and bring insights into some of the topics team members may want to discuss.
Prospective team members - join our program to sharpen your thinking and attack the SAT and college consulting with research-backed strategy and support from the team here at Tigerway.
Good luck and keep working hard Tigerway members!
