Summer is ending: A new academic year awaits (Start planning college strategy today)
Preparing for the year ahead with thoughtful planning
Dear Tigerway Team Members, Parents, and Prospective Families,
With the August SAT approaching (our Model Forecast is NOW updated in our Discord server - current team members students can view it now) and Summer coming to an end, it is the best time to start thinking about planning for college applications if you are a rising sophomore and junior.
College applications allow students to showcase their identity and story through academia and life experience. But what makes a college application strong?
From our view, there are two primary consideration points: the Academic Rating and the Non-Academic Rating
The Academic Rating
GPA & Rigor: The more challenging your coursework (assuming you succeed in the class), the more impressive your profile
SAT & ACT Scores: The higher your Math and English scores, the greater your ability to convince admission officers that you can handle a challenging college major. The more selective the school, the less optional the exam becomes.
The Non-Academic Rating
Extracurriculars: Showing strong impact is one of the best ways to demonstrate personal qualities
Personal Statements: The essays are an opportunity to showcase your unique voice to admission officers
Recommendations: This is the most important part of selective admissions - to get teachers to vouch for you
In the past, Tigerway has collectively guided hundreds of Team Members to score above the 1400 range and also provide strategy and guidance on how to improve the “Non-Academic Rating” of their profile as well.
Each Mega Star (1400+) has formed a story with Tigerway that taught them not only exam skills but also life skills. With the proper guidance, time commitment, and work ethic, Team Members can reach their dream scores and colleges in no time.
Here are two outcomes from the past that have joined Mega Stardom:
Julia Nguyen: Julia joined Tigerway hoping to grow her confidence for SAT exams and make more connections with other Team Members. Throughout her Tigerway program, she gained a deeper understanding of reading and writing strategies while adjusting her mindset to gain more confidence for her exam. By the end of the program, Julia scored a super score of 34 on the ACT and a high 1400s on the SAT. Julia will be attending Northeastern University.

Cody Ho: Cody was able to skyrocket his score from 1200 to 1470. Cody joined Tigerway during his sophomore year of high school hoping to improve his fundamental skills in mathematics and English. While in the program, Cody experienced the challenge of moving past the 1300s range where he struggled with his English skills. Cody overcame this difficulty by changing his mindset and being patient, skills obtained with Tigerway. Tigerway exposed Cody to new concepts and strategies that guided him to improve his score and become a Megastar. Cody will be attending Northeastern University.

A new Academic year is arriving soon
With the start of a new Academic year and a new environment in college admissions, if your son or daughter is an underclassman (9th/10th/11th grade) it would be advantageous to have a brainstorming session with me and my team to understand how our programs can help you position yourself for success.
As the college landscape evolves, my Coaching Team and I are now exploring more ways to help our Team at Tigerway shine in the college admission process.
Best,
Coach Larry Cheung, CFA and Jasmine Ngo
