Prepare for the Upcoming New Year Juniors!
A Guide for Juniors to Help Navigate the Year Towards College Admissions
This email is written by Program Director Jasmine Ngo
Tigerway Team Members and Families,
As we approach the end of the year, it's an exciting time for the next phase of your academic journey. For juniors, the upcoming year holds significant moments in the college preparation process. In this email, we want to provide a guide on what you should do in the next year to prepare for college!
Start College Preparation
Begin by researching potential colleges, considering factors like majors offered, campus environment, location, and financial aid options.
Start college tours to help see what fits your preferences. This initial exploration will help you narrow down your choices and set a clear direction for your application process.
Utilize resources, visit information sessions, and engage with current students or alumni to gain insights into prospective colleges. Starting early will afford you the time needed to make informed decisions and tailor your applications to your chosen institutions.
Make sure you are actively editing your college application as you continue your Junior year.
SAT/ACT Exams
Create a study plan that suits your learning style and book a brainstorming session with us to help you plan.
Schedule your first SAT exam in March 2024 (the first digital exam release).
Utilize practice tests, review materials, and online resources to familiarize yourself with the test format and content. Consider joining Tigerway to help prepare and maximize your score. Remember, consistency and practice are key to boosting your confidence and achieving your desired scores. Start early and plan strategically to allow plenty of time for preparation, practice, and potential retakes.
Build Relationships
Building meaningful relationships with teachers, mentors, and counselors is valuable during the college preparation process. These individuals can provide guidance, support, and valuable recommendation letters that highlight your strengths and character.
Take the initiative to engage in class discussions, seek help when needed, and participate in extracurricular activities or clubs where you can form connections with mentors.
Developing these relationships early on will ensure that you have a strong support network as you navigate the challenges and decisions associated with college admissions. Genuine connections can also offer valuable insights and perspectives as you shape your academic and personal journey toward college.
By initiating your college preparation, laying the groundwork for your SAT/ACT exams, and fostering meaningful relationships, you've taken significant steps toward shaping your future.
Utilize the resources available to you, seek guidance from mentors and counselors, and don't hesitate to ask for help when needed!
