Attention all rising Seniors, this email is for you!
As you embark on this exciting journey, filled with remarkable moments and crucial choices, we understand the significance of preparing for your college applications - the most important season of the year.
In this email, I will discuss the important things to keep in mind as you enter your senior year.
For those who are not yet Seniors, still, read this email; it holds valuable insights that can help you stay ahead as you progress through your coming years!
As you prepare for your academic year, we want you to meet a Mega-Star Tigerway Alumni, Ahmed Alananzeh.
Ahmed Alananzeh joined our program with a clear vision – to boost his SAT scores and create a compelling college profile that would stand out to Ivy League Colleges.
Throughout Ahmed's Tigerway journey, he demonstrated unwavering commitment and determination to achieve his academic goals.
With the guidance of Coach Larry Cheung and the support of his Tigerway Team Members, Ahmed received multiple college acceptances, and among them, a prestigious offer from none other than Yale University! This achievement speaks volumes about Ahmed's determination and the impact of his Tigerway experience.
We aim to help you achieve your goals, just like Ahmed did. Junior and Senior years are crucial for building a strong college application.
Here are some useful tips to help you make the most of your Senior year
Stay Organized
With multiple tasks to tackle, staying organized is key! Create a calendar or use a planner to keep track of application deadlines, standardized test dates (SAT/ACT), scholarship opportunities, and important school events. Set reminders for yourself, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks!
Strengthen Your Academics
Senior-year grades still matter! Colleges will often ask for your first semester or mid-year grades, so maintain focus and work hard in your classes. Challenge yourself with advanced coursework like AP Classes to showcase your academic rigor.
Develop your Resume
Colleges look beyond just grades and test scores. A well-rounded resume that highlights your extracurricular activities, leadership roles, community service, awards, and achievements will make your application stand out.
Show how you've made a positive impact in your school and community.
Go to your Guidance Counselor or Meet with a Mentor
Talk to your school's college counselor or advisor early on. They can offer personalized guidance, help you build your college list, review your application essays, and provide information on financial aid options.
Meeting with a Mentor can also help you organize your thoughts. Whether it's refining your academic goals or discussing potential career paths, mentors can offer valuable perspective and support. Moreover, they can review your college profile, providing constructive feedback on how to strengthen your extracurricular activities, achievements, and overall presentation to potential colleges.
Build your College List
Before the school semester starts, explore different colleges and universities that align with your academic and personal interests. Consider factors like location, size, majors offered, campus culture, and extracurricular opportunities. Attend college fairs and information sessions to gather firsthand knowledge!
Start your Personal Statement and College Essays
Your college essay is a chance to express your unique voice and personality. Be authentic, showcase your passions, and share a meaningful experience or life lesson. Before the semester starts, brainstorm ideas to write about for each prompt (available on CommonApp)! These essays may also help you with scholarship applications!
Request Strong Letters of Recommendation
Ask teachers, mentors, or supervisors who know you well to write your recommendation letters. Ensure they can speak to your strengths and abilities, as these letters provide insight into your character.
Prepare for Standardized Exams
If you haven't already taken the SAT or ACT, consider registering for upcoming test dates. Take practice tests to familiarize yourself with the format and identify areas for improvement. Strong scores can still boost your application.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Start researching financial aid options and scholarships early. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after October 1st.
Look into merit-based scholarships and grants offered by colleges and external organizations.
Remember, the college application process is a journey of self-discovery and growth. Let us help you learn and find what is best for your future endeavors. The earlier you start these tips, the more prepared you are for a fun year of High School!
