Tigerway Parents and Students,
As students gear up for the upcoming standardized tests, we wanted to tell you more about the ACT exam. Similar to the SAT, the ACT is a standardized test that measures the skills and knowledge that students have gained throughout high school and assesses their readiness for college.
What is the ACT
The ACT is composed of four multiple-choice sections: English, math, reading, and science. It also includes an optional writing section.
The test is on a scale of 1 to 36 with a composite score being the average of the four section scores. Each section is timed with a total of 2 hours and 55 minutes to finish the test (3 hours and 40 minutes with the writing section).
What you need to know about what’s tested on the ACT
English:Â (75 questions) Covers writing skills with punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, and rhetorical analysis.
Math:Â (60 questions) Covers math topics taught until the end of 11th grade, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and some precalculus.
Reading:Â (40 questions with four passages) Tests your reading comprehension skills on identifying main ideas, details, comparisons, reasoning, and more.
Science:Â (40 questions) Tests your skills in natural science by interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and solving science questions.
Familiarity with the format and types of questions on the ACT is essential for success.Â
