Here are the Common App Prompts That You Can Choose From
As you read these prompts, take some time to brainstorm ideas you want to write about. Think about your experiences and what about them stands out to you. Think about a personal passion or hobby that genuinely excites you. Reflect on a significant life event or moment when you felt deeply engaged or inspired. What emotions did it evoke, and how can you capture them in your essay? Consider a challenging experience or obstacle you've overcome. How did it shape you, and what valuable insights did you gain?
Imagine Your Readers’ Excitement
Write about something that excites you and ignites your passion. This will help your personality shine through and make your essay stand out. Your enthusiasm will be contagious and will leave the admissions team eager to learn more about you.
Write Like a Journalist
A strong opening sets the tone for the rest of the piece and can make the difference between a reader becoming engaged and continuing to read, or losing interest and moving on to something else. It's essential to hook the reader early on and provide a clear and compelling reason for them to keep reading. Taking the time to craft a powerful opening can greatly enhance the effectiveness of any piece of writing. So, be sure to put in the effort and attention to detail that's required to create a memorable and impactful introduction.
Break Free from Prompts
Be free to tell the story you want colleges to hear. Don't be afraid to reveal who you truly are, what you value, and why you're a great fit for the institution you're applying to. Remember, the most important thing is to show the admissions team why you're a good fit for their school. Remember, what matters most is revealing who you are, what you value, and why you're a great fit for their institution.
Let Your Emotions Shine
Your essays should express your emotions, going beyond a mere list of achievements. Show vulnerability, share moments of nervousness or fear, and exhibit self-awareness. Remember, perfection isn't the goal; authenticity is. Show character development within your work.
Revise, Revise, Revise
Seek feedback from those who know you best—parents, teachers, mentors, counselors, and friends. Embrace constructive criticism as a means to improve and refine your essay. The more you revise, the stronger your essay will become.
