Tigerway Parents and Students,
In today’s email, we wanted to share a what may seem like a very challenging Math problem from the current administration of the SAT.
Here’s the problem: A Circles Question
So how do we solve this?
This problem isn’t as hard as it looks. Follow the steps here:
Draw this same problem in your notes.
Draw a radius for MA and a radius for MB. You’ll notice that AB is then the Hypothenuse (longest side). It has a side length of 5 √ 2.
For this reason, triangle MAB must be a 45-45-90 triangle because a right triangle is formed and the Hypothenuse follows the side ratios 1:1: √ 2
The Sides then must have a value of 5 since the Hypothenuse is 5 √ 2.
Therefore the Radius has a value of 5
The circumference formula is 2Ï€r. With a radius of 5, the Circumference is 10Ï€. Answer is B.
There will be plenty of questions just like this one coming up on the March 2023, May 2023, and June 2023 SAT exams along with the exams in the 2H of 2023.
Knowing how to swiftly and skillfully break these problems down will help you greatly problem-solve your way to higher grades in school AND on the SAT/ACT.
If this problem was very hard for you, or you want to know how to improve your math abilities for both your SAT Preparation or your High School Coursework, book a call today to make sure you’re prioritized on our waitlist.
